Frequently Asked Questions

Everything people most often ask about Cape Muslim Connect and our founding community, Durbanville Islamic Society — location, prayers, classes, the building fund and how to take part.

Where is the Durbanville Islamic Society based?

The Durbanville Islamic Society (DIS) is based at 28 Tambotie Crescent, Wellway Park East, Durbanville, Cape Town. Jumuah Salaah is held at the Morningstar Community Centre, and the land for our permanent Masjid and Islamic Centre has been purchased and secured.

When is Jumuah Salaah held?

Jumuah is performed every Friday at the Morningstar Community Centre. Please check our News page or contact the committee for the current Khutbah time, as it shifts with the season.

Are the prayer times on this website accurate?

The times shown in the top bar are indicative for Durbanville. Always confirm with the committee or your local Athan app before relying on them, especially near sunrise and sunset.

How do I enrol my child in the madrasah?

Junior Foundation Phase classes run Monday to Thursday from 15:00 to 16:00 and Junior Senior Foundation from 17:00 to 18:00. Send a message through the contact form on our homepage or email durbanvilleislamicsociety@gmail.com and the team will guide you through enrolment.

Are there classes for adults?

Yes. Sheikh Omar Effendi conducts online classes during the week: Umrah class on Mondays, Islamic Civilization on Tuesdays, Fiqh on Wednesdays and Kitaabul Janazah on Fridays. All senior and adult classes are held online.

What is the Buy A Brick campaign?

Buy A Brick lets anyone contribute to the building of our Masjid and Islamic Centre at R100 per brick. It is a Sadaqah Jariyah — an ongoing charity that continues to benefit you long after the contribution is made.

How do I donate to the building fund?

Deposit into the DIS fundraising account at FNB — account name Durbanville Islamic Society, account number 62446655360, branch code 250655, reference Buy A Brick — then email your proof of payment to durbanvilleislamicsociety@gmail.com so your bricks can be recorded.

Can I be recognised as a supporter?

Yes. When the committee records your confirmed contribution you may choose to be listed on the public wall of supporters, or to remain anonymous.

Do I need an account to use this website?

No. Everything about DIS, our classes, events and the building fund is public. An account is only needed to post on the community wall, comment, submit suggestions and use the private good-deeds tracker.

How do I get involved or volunteer?

Everyone is welcome. Send a message through the contact form, submit an idea on the Suggestions page, or speak to Chairman Anwar Ismail on 084 973 0415 or Secretary Walid Brown on 082 555 5044.

Is the community open to non-Muslims and visitors?

Yes. Our community get-togethers and outreach initiatives welcome families, friends and neighbours from all backgrounds.

Who is Patrick VDV?

Patrick Leon van der Vyver is the CEO and founder of Cape Muslim Connect. A Muslim revert with Christian roots, he reverted privately at the end of 2025 and took his public Shahada at Panorama Masjid (Masjid Al Tuba) in early 2026. You can read more about his story on the About page.
